Tottenham Hotspurs are closing in on a new signing. However surprising that might sound , it has been reported that Tottenham Hotspurs are very close to reaching an agreement with towering Ajax centre half Davinson Sánchez for a club record fee of upto £42m .

Mauricio Pochettino had previously expressed his disappointment at the club’s inactivity in the transfer market and with the departure of Kyle Walker to direct rivals , the tension amongst the Spurs faithful is definitely on the rise . After a very impressive debut season in European Football where Ajax were beaten by Manchester United in the Europa League final, Davinson had become Pochettino’s primary defensive target to snap up before the transfer season wraps up.

Sources have confirmed that Tottenham officials had travelled to Amsterdam on Monday to finalise contractual negotiations . Ajax were adamant on not accepting any fee below £50m , but after some negotiations the two clubs have reach an agreement which sees Tottenham pay £28m upfront with an additional £14m based on performance related bonuses.

Having already indicated his desire to move to North London despite interests from rivals Chelsea , it is expected that he will sign a 5 year contract with Tottenham.

Pape Cheikh and Ross Barkley are other targets which Spurs will hope to secure by the end of the window , but it has come to our knowledge that Spurs are unwilling to pay the £30m asking price for Ross. Pape Cheikh looks the more realistic option at the moment. Time is running out , and Pochettino will hope to thrash out a few deals including Davinson by the end of the month. They still lack an out an out striker who can act as a back up to Harry Kane. Janssen’s stats don’t bid well for his claim to the backup forward position , hence it is very important that Tottenham Hotspurs seal a deal for another striker to support Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.
